forced discipline
So my wife and I are moving for the second time in 6 months. Since we moved so recently I’m noticing that packing isn’t as agonizing. We don’t have as many dusty corners or drawers full of random stuff that hasn’t been looked at in years. There are still a few random things, but most of what we have has a purpose in our life (beyond taking up space).
I’ve also noticed that it makes my brain feel good to be organized and to not collect clutter. It’s not easy, though. I have to force decisions.
If I haven’t used something in a long time, throw it away. If I’m questionable, throw it away. Without this forced discipline my life wouldn’t be so uncluttered.
All this makes me wonder what would happen if I applied this same attitude of forced discipline to ideas I’m contemplating or my email inbox or work projects.
Would this approach suppress creativity or lead to new ideas? Would this approach close the door on potential ideas too quickly or allow my brain to move on and contemplate new ideas?
There is only one way to figure it out: force myself to try it. Wish me luck.
